The System Administrator’s (SA) role is to protect availability and security of computer systems and network connections of the supported applications and business data. The SA also participates in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. The SA is responsible for the installation, implementation, and support of servers, desktop PC’s, phone systems, networking equipment, and all related hardware and software and ensuring the integrity and security of enterprise data on Server, Network, and SAN infrastructure in accordance with business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage and support local / regional physical and virtualized servers, network, and SAN infrastructure
  • Support local VOIP phone systems
  • Provide first and second level support
  • Mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, printers, and workstations. Escalates incidents as necessary.
  • Facilitate local / regional data backup and restore
  • Manage all end-user software
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
  • Manage and train help desk technicians
  • Effectively manage local / regional projects
  • Provide infrastructure planning, design, and implementation
  • Report to management team and effectively communicate technical project status and updates
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts
  • Track asset management, including inventory of warranty and maintenance of infrastructure and related documentation as well as technical specification information
  • Create and maintain diagrams, policies, procedures, and any additional technical documentation required
  • Provide on-call emergency after hours support on a rotating basis

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • An understanding of business ethics and the ability to keep sensitive information confidential
  • Strong technical knowledge of Desktop and Server operating systems and hardware
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Availability for occasional 7 x 24 and weekend work as required for changing business requirements, maintenance windows, and installations and implementations

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field preferred
  • 5+ years’ hands-on professional experience on Windows and VMware Environments, hardware, software and applications or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Background check required

Work Environment

  • Provides on-call emergency after hours support on a rotating basis
  • Occasionally work from home
  • Limited travel
  • Some heavy lifting required (max. 50 lbs)
